There are certain 'stock moments' in the Barlow's universe which are visited frequently throughout all of the stories which tend to reappear due to the fact that they really form the fabric of the Barlow's Music Shop AU's world: stuffy summer afternoons at the shop, driving in Jason's car in the early evening, late night conversations in half-lit rooms and rainy nights in. To help set the tone for each of these scenes I have a few set songs which I always return to, no matter what the story, to help get my mind in the right place for the combinations of weather, characters, time of day and tone - and I thought I would share those in the form of Mixtape Specials, posted on the Barlow's Blog. So, to start things off, it's one of my favourite set scenes: Jason and Howard's apartment late on a rainy night. Usually dimly lit and always dreamily peaceful, the apartment's late rainy night scenes are always some of my favourites to write and often include some intense moments of emotion, both romantic and otherwise, so the music has to be gauged just right for me to be able to really get a feel for that combination of calm and heaviness which often characterises these moments.

The addition of Wolff's Law to the Barlow's collection is still a long way off, but I don't see any harm in letting everyone have a little teaser of what might be in store for the staff of Barlow's Music Shop when they eventually return for a new adventure. Take a look at the Wolff's Law pages on The Shopfloor and in The Records Room to find out what I'm talking about - enjoy!
So, Barlow's has got some new stock coming in - soon though not exactly imminently - and it's going to be BIG! And if you want a teaser for what exactly the Barlow's staff will be up to, here's a cryptic little clue to keep you thinking. More teasers coming soon. WOLFF’S LAW: Bone adapts to the loads under which it is placed. If loading increases, the bone will become stronger to resist it. Barlow's Music Shop now has a bulletin board! It's a new part of the homepage where you can find out what the latest updates to the website are, including what story edits have been published, which playlists are being updated, which parts of the site are changing, and what new stories and playlists have been added. If you check back to the Barlow's Bulletin Board at the bottom of the homepage, you will find it being updated regularly with all these details, and every update is dated so you can make sure you aren't re-reading the same stories expecting updates that aren't there! Hope you like it!
The re-vamped update of The Other Side Of The Door is now published and ready to be read for anyone who's interested - you can find it in stock on the shopfloor.
As I am currently working on a new, revised, longer version of Not Conducive To Marrying You, the Not Conducive To Marrying You Mix has also received a massive re-vamp in recent weeks. If you want to get in the mood for the new version of the story before it's posted then why not take a look at the new version of the mix which has now been published in the Records section of the site and keep checking back on the news page for when the new edition of the story is also published. Happy listening everyone!
Good news Barlow's customers! The Barlow's stock has been undergoing a revamp this year, and although there is still a long, long way to go in terms getting everything revised, edited, rewritten and re-checked, brand new, updated versions of Four Men And A Dusty Piano, Someday, Lie Me Down, Pick N Mix Kisses, The Last Post-It and Just Raindrops have all been completed and uploaded to read on The Shopfloor. Work on The Other Side Of The Door and Not Conducive To Marrying You is now in progress, so look out for confirmation of those revised versions going online in the near future and keep checking back for all the stock to be just as new and shiny very, very soon. These edits not only include revised versions of the old scenes, but also brand new dialogue and extra scenes never published before - think of them as being the Director's Cut editions! Hope you enjoy!
